Interview with Václav Husník, member of the Purple Trading Club
A few words about Vašek
He’s active in the capital markets from an early age, where at first, he focused on daily commodity futures trading. Later, he found forex where he trades actively for more than 5 years now.
Vašek is a trader for whom trading became part of his life, and he tries to provide his long-term experiences now in the form of different lectures and talking to other trading fans.
Hello Vašek! At first, I can’t avoid the question of how you came to professional trading, and what was your biggest motivation ?
It was a single question luring me in trading: “How to become free and also independent on the world around to a certain extent.” And in these days, the top motivation is, I believe, the same for any job and it’s not necessary to mention it.
However, besides this one motivation, I also wanted to learn something new badly and wanted to grasp how the entire market system works.
What was your top trading success?
Firstly, it’s necessary to realize what is this “success.” For one person, it’s 100,000 a day, for another, it’s 10,000 and for others even 1,000. With regard to the child in the soul of each of us, the response is very subjective.
At a moment when we achieve “success,” we want more. At this moment, for me a big success is, that I finally succeeded in the following of my pre-set daily limits, while I can provide assistance to Purple Trading clients as well, I am already helping to achieve their goals.
Unfortunately, I am in a stage where the most precious commodity is my time, which limits me partially in my actual potential objectives.
What was your top trading failure?
There were many of them. When it comes to trading alone, my top fail was a trade where I lost almost a million CZK. Otherwise, my major problem is the time I spend when looking for an appropriate long-term strategy that could fit my trading. I mean, in particular, the choice of market area a person wants to trade in.
Financial markets are pretty variable, and it’s almost impossible for an individual to be an expert at everything.
By now, I have not met an expert for equities, bonds, commodities, forex, etc. at the same time. I believe that if such people existed, there would be no structured departments in different financial institutions.
Therefore, it’s important for everyone to pick certain area first, then focus on it and improve it to an ideal stage. Only then you can focus on any other area.
What is your favourite trading instrument?
In forex, e.g. it’s the “EUR/USD” currency pair. Otherwise, in general, I like to trade instruments that rise and drop quickly, simply highly volatile markets. For the trader it’s important to realize before the trading position what does he trade.
The most important factor for me is the initial market analysis, how the market moved historically. Average maximum and minimum D1 data.
Thereafter, an average daily range, and at the end, the least traded markets. Thanks to this, you may be able to define the objectives at an underlying asset.
What do you specialize at in your trading? What is your approach like, and which tools do you use ?
The word “IF,” we hear often, is simply missing the market vocabulary, and therefore, we need to be cautious all the time. Now, I specialize more at the optimisation of implemented strategies and automated trading systems (ATS). Each strategy has different needs. Each ATS requires different approach and logic. The basis of success is the simplicity, and therefore, my main tools tend to be the prices of instruments alone.
When you don’t trade, what do you do?
I am trying to compensate my body for my unreasonable teenage behaviour. Therefore, I like doing sports and get to know new places. Nevertheless, my most favourites are martial arts and dogs.
